All Change Please

As I reflect on my first few weeks as a trainee solicitor at Woodfines, I realise that the next two years are going to be busy but interesting, and I am in no doubt that they will fly by!

Although I am a new trainee solicitor, I cannot be described as a new employee: I have been at Woodfines for two and a half years.

I have, until three weeks ago, been a Paralegal in the Commercial Property department. I was confident in that role and relished the challenges I faced in a fast-paced department. However, I was soon bitten by the ambition bug and, following encouragement from my colleagues and my supervisor, I applied for a training contract. I went through the same process as the other potential trainees and I was absolutely delighted when they offered me a place.

During my time with the firm, I have been aware of their eagerness to encourage the best out of their staff, regardless of what role they are in. Woodfines appreciate that their staff are individuals and they encourage them to pursue their careers in a way which suits them. Some employees are studying to become Legal Executives, others are taking steps to become paralegals but, irrespective of their route into law, they are strongly supported by the firm. This support and encouragement reduces the stress and common challenges often faced whilst pursuing a career in the legal world.

All Change Please - Journey of a New Trainee Solicitor

My own particular journey to become a trainee solicitor has not been as straight-forward as some, but with determination, hard work and with the right support, I have realised you can achieve the career you wish for. Whilst I am aware that my training contract will bring its own challenges, I am eager to learn and develop the skills I have already learnt at Woodfines and plan to use these to make a success of the next two years.

My first seat as a trainee will be in the Litigation department at the Bedford office. This department is completely new to me but so far, I have loved learning the ropes and getting to grips with the new matters I will be involved in.

As I begin a new chapter with Woodfines, with a new title and new department, I do so with excitement and just a little apprehension of what the next two years will bring.
