If you haven’t already had your dog microchipped, you need to do this urgently as it becomes compulsory from 6th April 2016. A fine of up to £500 can otherwise be imposed.
The Microchipping of Dogs Regulations 2015 will come into force on 6th April 2016, and will require all dogs over eight weeks old to be microchipped.
The keepers’ details will be registered on an approved database and dogs will still be required by law to wear a collar and tag with the owner’s name and contact details on it when it is in a public place.
Further information on the obligations can be found here.
