I cannot believe that we are now more than halfway through our first seat and Christmas has come and gone! The last few months have certainly been busy and I have had lots of opportunities both in and outside of the office. I thought I would share a few of the events which I have recently attended:
Cambridge Law Society Drinks
In September, I attended the Cambridge Law Society’s Drinks for trainees. This was a great way to meet members of the Cambridge Law Society and other trainees from an array of firms in the Cambridge area who had also just started their training contracts. In particular, we were comforted to learn that other trainees were also struggling with the early mornings following a summer off after the LPC!
Bedford Breakfast Meetings
In October, I attended a Bedford Breakfast Club www.bedfordbreakfastclub.co.uk meeting. At the event there was a presentation from the Operations Director at Hybrid Air Vehicles, which is the company which runs the ‘Airlander’ project out of the Hangers at Cardington. It was an extremely interesting talk with an opportunity to network with business people who work across a range of sectors in and around Bedford.
Woodfines’ Wine Tasting Evening
Woodfines’ Cambridge office hosted a Wine Tasting Event in October at Jesus College for our clients and contacts. This was a thoroughly enjoyable event where we tried German wines and furthered our wine education with information from Cambridge Wine Merchants. The event was a great way to talk to clients and for us trainees based in Bedford, Milton Keynes and Sandy to see those based at the Cambridge office again.
On Bonfire Night, ten of us from Woodfines attended the Annual Farmers’ Ball in Bedford. This was another enjoyable evening with dancing, beer served in watering cans, blackjack and roulette tables. We spoke to some of our agricultural clients and their guests who were also at the Ball whilst raising money for charity.
At Woodfines’ Christmas Party, there is a tradition for the trainees to perform a pantomime. This year, the theme was Narnia / Winter Wonderland and we created a new firm; White Witch and Wardrobe LLP. In the script, two trainees left the comfort of Woodfines and visited this ‘new firm’ in the world of ‘Newlyqualifinarnia’. Although the thought of performing a pantomime in front of the whole firm seems scary, it was actually great fun and is a welcome opportunity for the trainees to get together when rehearsing. The whole firm gets involved and everyone joined in on our bad jokes.
The trainees and all members of staff are encouraged to attend as many marketing and business events that we can across all the offices and further afield. I look forward to the upcoming events and meeting more new faces in 2017.
