Woodfines has again been recognised as “excellent” in the nationwide legal directory, the Legal 500.
Published for twenty-nine years, the Legal 500 conducts a comprehensive research programme to provide annual rankings of the strength and expertise of law firms up and down the UK.
In the South East, covering the firm’s Bedford, Milton Keynes and Sandy offices, the firm’s Corporate and Commercial team were described as “[a]‘very capable’ team [which] ‘delivers results and communicates with clients in an approachable, commercial and real-world manner’.” Department Head, Neil Gibbs, was recognised as being ‘proactive’, and a lawyer who ‘builds great relationships with clients’ and ‘will always come up with a solution to the problem at hand’.
The firm’s Commercial Litigation team based in the South East were also ranked in the directory, and praised for their ‘great value for money, good response times and commercial outlook’. Partner, Andrew Carter, was described as ‘very intelligent, and has a good eye for technicalities without losing sight of the bigger picture’.
The firm’s Bedford and Milton Keynes-based Employment team was recognised for providing ‘an excellent service for difficult matters’, whilst the South East’s Commercial Property team received a strong Tier 2 ranking for its property transactions for businesses.
In the field of Wills, Trusts, Tax and Probate matters, the team in the South East were again acknowledged as one of the strongest teams in the region, described as ‘knowledgeable’ whilst also building ‘a trusted relationship with its clients’, with lawyers that ‘can be relied on with complete confidence’. Consultant, Mike Cox, was renowned for his ‘wide knowledge of the practice area’ and as a solicitor who ‘responds to all questions with congeniality, patience and ease’, whilst Partner, Esther Marchant, was recognised as ‘clear and concise, outlining all relevant information and making a difficult process easy’.
The broad and ‘excellent’ Family Law team at the firm’s Bedford and Milton Keynes offices was described as being able to ‘build trusted relationships with its clients’ and ‘guide them through difficult and painful legal areas with compassion and professionalism’.
The firm’s specialist Agriculture team, which deals with all matters from probate and estate planning, to commercial matters for businesses and rural landowners, was acknowledged for its ‘strong understanding of wills, tenancy agreements and purchases in the agricultural sector’. The well-known Criminal Law team based at Milton Keynes were also acknowledged for their specialist expertise, with their broad base of defence work - from motoring to manslaughter - recognised.
The firm’s Litigation team in the South East, covering both Personal Injury matters and Contentious Probate, were also acknowledged in this year’s directory for their representation of clients over the past year.
In the Legal 500 directory for the East Anglia region, the firm’s office based in Cambridge city centre was recognised with Consultant, Alun Butler, highlighted as a Leading Individual in the field of Wills, Trusts, Tax and Probate matters for the whole of the East Anglia region. Recognised as ‘one of the region’s most experienced practitioners’, Alun has again been recognised as a solicitor who ‘always gets positive responses and meets clients’ needs.’
The office’s Commercial team was renowned for having built a first-rate reputation for both domestic and international corporate deals, whilst the Employment team, led by Senior Associate Nick Sayer, was acknowledged for being ‘always efficient and [with] a keen eye on balancing costs’.
