Bedford Breakfast Club
The Bedford Breakfast Club is a networking event sponsored by Metro Bank, Mazars and Woodfines Solicitors which has been running successfully for a number of years in the pleasant surroundings of Bedfordshire Golf Club, providing easy access for both Bedford and Milton Keynes.
Attendees include individuals from a wide range of businesses based in and around Bedford and Milton Keynes, with an average attendance of around 40 people.
Full English and continental breakfasts are available and varied speakers cover a wide range of interesting topics, relevant to business and the local community.
This month we will be hearing from Tom Perrett who is the Manager for Culture & Heritage at Bedford Borough Council, with responsibility for services including The Higgins Bedford, Bedford Borough Libraries, Bedfordshire Archives, and heritage sites. He also sits on the Bedford Cultural Partnership (a network of local cultural providers) which is currently working on a cultural strategy for the Borough, and the Local Cultural Education Partnership.
The Higgins Bedford’s mission is to be a cultural facility for all people to enjoy, explore and learn from the visual and decorative arts, archaeology, social and natural history, through fresh and exciting programming and the development of the collections. The art gallery and museum is housed in historic buildings that bring together three formerly separate venues following a major redevelopment in 2013. The focus since then has been on working with and for local communities – the service has built valuable place-based partnerships and developed strong links with the community, progressing towards a vision of The Higgin Bedford being a cultural hub working in partnership with Bedford’s diverse communities.
The Higgins Bedford has watercolour, print and decorative art collections of national significance (with major collections of works by JMW Turner, William Burges and Edward Bawden). Through its local collections, the art gallery and museum encourages a sense of place for Bedford and explores the inspiring stories of local people.
